Welcome to the Long Spinney website.

Long Spinney is a community wet woodland on the edge of Aylesbury Vale, in the village of Wing, Buckinghamshire. The Spinney was adopted in March 2015 by Wing Parish Council and is a volunteer run amenity.

We rely on volunteers and the public to let us know of any problems in the wood as it is community run, please use the Reporting page or if it is urgent contact the Clerk on 01525 875308.

The reinstated Village Walk – Walk Around Wing – 2015

We are pleased to announce that as of 4 May 2015 Long Spinney is officially open! There is only one main footpath at present, however over the coming months that will change. Please keep to the footpath and keep dogs on leads, as well as clearing up after them. We are trying to encourage ground wildlife and loose dogs will  disturb nesting birds and leaving dog poo is very unpleasant both for humans and the wildlife!

The new bridge by the lake in wood is complete. June 3rd & 7th’s working parties should see the nest path loop properly opened for use.

With lots of thanks to helpers, the new path around to south side of the wood over the new bridge by the lake is open with the beginning of work to open up the lake for wildlife also complete.

Many thanks to all the super help from Wing Scouts – over 25 of them plus bigger ‘helpers’ built an excellent ‘dead hedge’ around the far marsh. The start we hope of them enjoying the site as well as helping us all develop it.

We are taking a bit of a rest in December but what a lot has been achieved this year. With the help of the Scouts & local people we planted over 200 trees the other week & today with the help of another group we installed a new bench by the lake in the wood – courtesy of an anonymous donor – many thanks to all! Of course when we say we are taking a rest – we note that individuals are still hard at it clearing new paths & improving watercousres. All help gratefully received!!

WANTED – Can you help us with raising funds for the next stage of work – more benches / picnic tables, materials to improve paths that are boggy, bird & bat boxes – the list WILL extend as we progress!!!!
